3 kW Solar for UP Homes — Up to ₹1.08 Lakh Subsidy

A plain-language guide to Central Government and UP state subsidies for residential rooftop solar. We help you claim every rupee you are entitled to.

What is PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana?

Launched in February 2024, PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is a Central Government scheme that provides direct financial assistance to residential households installing rooftop solar systems. The scheme aims to provide 300 units of free electricity per month to one crore households across India. Uttar Pradesh adds a state-level top-up subsidy, making UP one of the most attractive states for residential solar.

Why 3 kW is the sweet spot for most UP homes

Maximum subsidy per rupee spent

The Central subsidy caps at ₹78,000 for systems above 2 kW. A 3 kW system gets the full Central cap plus the higher UP state top-up of ₹30,000 — total ₹1,08,000.

Covers a typical household's daytime load

A 3 kW system generates 270–330 units per month in Lucknow's solar conditions — enough to offset most of a medium household's bill.

Fits most residential rooftops

You need approximately 30 sq m (about 300 sq ft) of shadow-free roof area — achievable on most independent houses and many flats with terrace access.

Net metering credit for surplus

Any units you generate but don't use are exported to the grid and credited to your electricity bill through UPPCL/PVVNL net metering.

Eligibility checklist

You must meet all of the following to qualify for the PM Surya Ghar subsidy:

Step-by-step: How to claim your subsidy

1

Register on the national portal

Visit pmsuryaghar.gov.in and register with your state, DISCOM, electricity consumer number, and mobile number linked to Aadhaar.

2

Apply for rooftop solar

Submit your application on the portal. Your DISCOM will review it and issue a feasibility approval — typically within 30 days.

3

Install through an empanelled vendor

The system must be installed by a DISCOM-empanelled vendor using approved equipment. We are an authorised installer — we handle this for you.

4

Net meter installation

After installation, your DISCOM installs a net meter at your premises. This records both import and export of electricity.

5

Submit commissioning report

Upload the commissioning certificate and net meter details on the portal. Your DISCOM inspects and approves the installation.

6

Subsidy credited to your bank

Once approved, the Central subsidy is transferred directly to your bank account via DBT. The UP state subsidy follows through the state channel.

Subsidy amounts, eligibility criteria, and process steps are based on information available as of October 2026 and are subject to change by the Central Government and Government of Uttar Pradesh. Always verify current rates and procedures at pmsuryaghar.gov.in and your DISCOM's official website before making any financial decisions.
